Design	An oval seal half the length of the flag is centered in the upper two-thirds of a red field, under which runs a band with multi-colored geometric “parfleche” designs. The seal’s central oval is orange, bearing three horses running to the left, spotted, black, and white. Surrounding the center is “CONFEDERATED TRIBES OF THE” above and UMATILLA INDIAN RESERVATION” below, in black Curving above the seal is “CAYUSE – WALLA WALLA – UMATILLA; below is “Treaty of 1855″, in black. In the upper hoist and fly corners are sets of four black upside-down “U”s in a 2×2 pattern.
Symbolism	The reservation is home to three distinct tribes: the Cayuse, Walla Walla, and Umatilla–represented in text and by the three horses and three parfleche emblems. Horses form a strong part of the tribes’ culture–the casino is called “Wildhorse”. The treaty signed 9 June 1855 between representatives of the United States and of the three tribes established the Umatilla Indian Reservation–the tribes ceded much of their land but “reserved” territory on which to remain.
